By truly crossing two cultures, Duleep Singh saw the best - and the worst - of two very different countries that now have a shared history and inextricable links.
Duleep Singh married twice. First to Bamba Muller, a 16 year old teacher from a missionary school in Egypt who could only speak Arabic. When they first met, they had to communicate through an interpreter. Bamba was both beautiful and intelligent and when she came over to England she was welcomed into society and together they had 3 sons and 3 daughters.
The Maharajah's second wife, Ada, was a British chambermaid and she became the mother of two more daughters, Princess Pauline and Princess Irene. |
